About the Club

Since 1882, South West Manchester Cricket Club has been an independant sports and social club tucked away at the end of Ellesmere Road in Chorlton.

South West Today

The modern day clubhouse has had a major face lift since 2010 and comprises of a classy, warm, welcoming members’ lounge serving an impressive range of drinks at very competitive prices. We also have 2 wide screen TVs broadcasting football, cricket and many other live sports. Upstairs the function room boasts a terrific party and meeting space with a large dance floor and a spacious balcony (spring and summer only).

Every Saturday night South West is the place to be in Chorlton with live music, quiz nights and other special evenings such as Race nights & Karaoke.

In summer, glorious afternoons can be spent in the handsome grounds watching cricket, having a barbecue or just socialising in the sun with friends. The club is family friendly and we have 4 different family days throughout the year!

South West is also the home of Manchester Glee (Tuesdays) and Chorlton Folk Club (Thursdays).

See the Sports section of the website for more info on Cricket, Bowls, Darts and Snooker!

Supporting our local breweries is something we like to do at South West - Hornbeam, Dunham Massey, Bollington, Beartown and Marble Brewery are just a few of the breweries we've featured with regular ‘Guest’ appearances from firm favourite Wainwrights! If there’s a tipple you fancy, let us know and we may just get it on for you!

There's always 2 guest ales on at the club as well as our session ale Thwaites Original. South West is now an important player on the real ale circuit in Chorlton. In fact, we’ve already had successful beer festivals at the club with more planned!! Keep your eyes on the ‘News’ section of the website for more details.

In 2010 South West was awarded the prestigious "Certificate of Excellence" from Cask Marque. This is a voluntary accreditation scheme that allows publicans to display a special symbol indicating that their cask ale is of excellent quality, as judged by a series of surprise inspections.

During 2008 the Club was the base and a set for the Ken Loach film ‘Looking for Eric’ starring the legendary Eric Cantona. A photograph of Eric pulling a pint at the club takes pride of place behind the members’ lounge bar!
