The Cricket at South West has been at the centre of sporting life in South Manchester for 128 years.
The Cricket Section comprises of senior and junior cricketers members. We currently have four senior teams playing in Greater Manchester Cricket League’s Saturday and Sunday Leagues. The junior teams compete in the South Manchester Junior Cricket League. On the field, our objective is to ensure that all players, when representing South West Manchester Cricket Club, play cricket in the true spirit and traditions of the game so that the game can be enjoyed by all, including spectators, opposing players and umpires.
Our training programmes are established specifically for each age group targeted to develop the cricketing abilities. The junior training takes place on Mondays evenings and are conducted by accredited coaches who run selection of session plans. The All-stars cricket sessions takes place on the same day by club All Stars Activator who run fun training programmes for 5-8 years old. The seniors practice on Thursday evenings which involves nets sessions followed by fielding drills.
South West has no restrictive policy and welcomes all potential members at all times. Our subscription rates for a full calendar year are priced to encourage new members joining the club. The cricket memberships include the ground maintenance and facilities expenses. The club currently has 11 wickets in our existing square; both the square and the ground are maintained by the Groundsman. The club has good changing room facilities, scoring facilities for scorers, alongside a dedicated umpires changing area.
We have devised a cricket development plan which we review annually to ensure it meets the requirements and necessities of our playing members. South West has made a constitutional adoption and implementation of the ECB Cricket club inclusion & diversity, Safe Hands’ and Safeguarding policy and has a Club Welfare Officer to protect young cricketers at the Club.’
