Since 1882, South West Manchester Cricket Club has been an independent sports and social club tucked away at the end of Ellesmere Road in Chorlton.
Sport at South West
We are a sports and social club with dedicated pitches for cricket and crown green bowling.
The sporting facilities are open to all members. More experienced members will be happy to assist anyone who wants to try an activity for the first time. For those who are interested in playing for a team or more seriously there are two sporting sections:
Bowls
There are men’s, women’s and mixed teams of all ages who play in the evenings. Veterans’ teams also play in the afternoons. Club competitions are held throughout the summer season and sometimes on the spring and autumn.
Cricket
The Club has two adult teams playing in the Greater Manchester League. Nets and training Are held in the off season.
On the cricket side we are heavily involved in disabled cricket and youth cricket from 5 years old and upwards.
Darts
We have a dedicated area of the bar for playing darts.
The two Ladies’ team play on a Monday night and the Men’s team on a Tuesday.
Snooker
We have two full size snooker tables
Entertainment at South West
We have a number of Club sourced evenings including a monthly Quiz Night and weekly Music Artists or karaoke or disco.
Every year there is a Christmas Children’s Party and our famous New Year’s Eve Party.
The Clubhouse
The modern day clubhouse had a major face lift in 2010 and comprises a warm, welcoming members’ lounge serving an impressive range of drinks at very competitive prices.
We have 2 widescreen TVs broadcasting football, cricket and many other live sports from BT and Sky.
Upstairs the function room boasts a terrific party and meeting space with a large dance floor and a spacious balcony.
Every Saturday night South West is the place to be in Chorlton with live music, quiz nights and other special evenings such as Race nights & Karaoke.
In summer, glorious afternoons can be spent in the handsome grounds watching cricket, having a barbecue or just socialising in the sun with friends.
The club is family friendly and we have 4 different family events throughout the year!
South West is also the home of Manchester Glee (Tuesdays) and Chorlton Folk Club (Thursdays).
See the Sports section of the website for more info on Cricket, Bowls, Darts and Snooker!
Function Room
The McCoy Lounge (upstairs) can be hired by members at a special rate and is ideal for adult parties, anniversaries and celebrations of all types.
The room can be booked at the main bar. It was used in the film ‘Looking for Eric’.
How the Club is Run
Each year at the Annual General Meeting, the members elect a Committee to run the Club and every 3 years, a Secretary and Treasurer.
The Bowling and Cricket sections are represented on the Committee and a President is appointed each year.
The AGM hears a report from the Secretary and scrutinises the Treasurer’s Accounts.
Any changes to the Club rules, the subscriptions or general policy have to be approved by the AGM.
There are committees to run the House, the Grounds and Entertainment and any member is welcome to attend.
